DATA LIVES ON.

Long-term data preservation is a journey that takes you beyond current IT data storage strategies. It travels through your entire organization to maintain the safety and integrity of data, knowledge, and digital assets. It is an endeavor to ensure that digital information remains accessible and usable. Without the use of data preservation technology, much of current and future value is at risk. Congratulations on taking the first steps.

DATA PRESERVATION IS A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME

CERN has created large volumes of “data” of many
different types for over 60 years. This involves not only
scientific data – but also many other types (photos,
videos, minutes, memos, web pages etc). Regretably,
some of this information has been lost. Jamie Shiers,
CERN IT Dept explains @CERNCOURIER.COM article.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD
FOR DIGITAL PRESERVATION

The Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System (OAIS), also known as
ISO 14721:2012, is the fundamental standard for an archival system dedicated to preserving and maintaining access to digital information over the long term. It has been approved by NASA's Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems and technical consensus of international member space agencies. OAIS is reviewed and updated every 5 years.
